A Culinary Haven

Madrina, meaning "Godmother" in Italian, is more than just a restaurant; it's a testament to the intersection of culinary expertise and heartfelt storytelling. Co-owners Stanley Browne and Arlene Maminta Browne, alongside Frank Romano and Laura Burns, bring their unique backgrounds to create a dining experience that is both inviting and memorable.

The restaurant's name, Madrina, pays homage to co-owner Frank Romano's godmother, Sister Helen Negri, whose influence shaped his culinary journey. This personal touch sets the tone for what Madrina aims to offer—a place where guests feel like they're coming home.

Crafting an Atmosphere

Madrina's charm extends beyond its menu; the carefully designed space reflects warmth and history. Housed in a historic building, and former home of C.J. Mugg’s restaurant, the space underwent a transformative facelift to create an ambiance that feels both contemporary and timeless. With the expertise of Helen Lee of Tao + Lee Associates, Madrina boasts tall dark ceilings, circle booths, and an expansive open bar. Laura Burns, owner of designlab, inc., ensured that every detail, from color palettes to lighting, contributes to an inviting and relaxed atmosphere.

Stanley Browne emphasizes that Madrina is not just a restaurant; it's a place for families to gather, friends to reunite, and memories to be made around the table. The restaurant's commitment to community and connection is evident in every aspect of its design and concept.

A Team of Culinary Maestros

Madrina's kitchen is helmed by Executive Chef Max Crask, bringing a wealth of experience from renowned establishments. Accompanying the culinary delights is Alisha Blackwell-Calvert, an acclaimed Advanced Sommelier serving as Madrina's Beverage Director. The dynamic duo ensures that the menu is a harmonious blend of traditional Italian-American history and modern culinary techniques.

Unveiling the Menu

The menu at Madrina is a culinary journey through history, offering a range of antipasti, pastas, pizzas, and entrees. Highlights include Wood Grilled Oysters, inspired by Romano's New Orleans upbringing, and the Zuppa di Cipolle, a rich onion soup with a fresh focaccia crouton. The pasta selection boasts traditional handmade delights like Linguine con Vongole and Spaghetti Chitarra Carbonara.

Pizza lovers will rejoice in the method of wood-grilling the dough before topping it, resulting in a perfect blend of smoky and hickory flavors. The Secondi section features fresh seafood and steaks, including the Lombatello Steak and the Bistecca Fiorentina, a Tuscan steak dish designed to serve two to four guests.

A Beverage Experience Like No Other

Madrina's beverage program is an adventure in itself, with carefully curated cocktails inspired by classic Italian culture. The wine menu, a vision brought to life by Certified Sommelier Stanley Browne, offers a balanced selection of 50% domestic and 50% Italian wines. The intention is to provide guests with a seamless transition between the two, encouraging exploration and discovery.
