Innovative Art Installation Arrives at City Museum
Daniel Attaboy Seifert, the co-founder of the esteemed contemporary art magazine Hi-Fructose, is set to unveil his latest creative endeavor, "The Upcycled Garden," at the iconic City Museum in downtown St. Louis.
This unique exhibition represents an ongoing and dynamic project curated by Seifert himself, utilizing locally-sourced recycled materials such as cardboard, house paint, and spray paint remnants. While the sculptures exhibit stunning beauty and organic shapes, a deeper narrative unfolds when observers turn them over, revealing a visual chronicle of consumption. From gluten-free pizza boxes to Covid tests, light bulbs, and Amazon packaging, each element is repurposed to breathe life into the artwork.
The genesis of these remarkable creations can be traced back to Seifert's personal experiences during the pandemic lockdown. Wrestling with the escalating cost of living and seeking solace from post-car accident PTSD and a neurological condition, he turned to art as a form of therapy. With a spontaneous approach to construction and minimal planning, Seifert finds tranquility in the creative process. The collection continues to evolve, with new groupings of sculptures emerging regularly, promising further growth and exploration well into 2024 and beyond.
"The Upcycled Garden" began at a converted mortuary-turned-gallery in Oakland, California, and has been exhibited at: Uma Gallery, The Brea City Gallery, Mainstreet LA, Art Thou Gallery, and more, prior to coming to City Museum.
An exclusive opening reception with the artist is scheduled at the City Museum on March 1st, from 5-9 p.m., offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with Seifert and gain insights into his creative process.
Admission to experience "The Upcycled Garden" is included with general admission to the City Museum and can be found in the Sullivan Architecture Gallery on the fourth floor.
